Armoire Part 1 Project Dreaming...

from Ikea, the fabric used to cover my bulletin board at the back of the armoire/craft cabinet

Planning...thank you Visio!

YEa yea yea, I'm an engineer. So my project needs a list of specs. And yes I have too much time on my hands! So I spent a few minutes and created a box drawing of a general armoire. I want one for craft supplies so they are all in one place, and I have somewhere to 'close up shop' if i want to hide the mess...Yes, mom, no mention that my mess usually leads in a trail around the house. :)

I know I want these things in my storage:
--Drawers for small component storage for sewing, photography, computer paper/photo paper, misc small hardware, and sewing/craft sundries.
--a place for my sewing machine in case
--a place for my serger and cover
--bulletin board across the back
--desk height shelf
--lighting inside
--peg board on the sides for scissors, rulers, and small baskets
--storage up top for scrapbook paper, photos/negatives, and some fabric but I doubt there will be room!

The armoire's I've been looking at have different types of doors on them, but all of them look like I can modify/add to them to use them for:
--magnetic boards for those Ikea clear magnetic cannisters I like so much
--2 or 3 arm type paper towel holders (ribbon and maybe even paper towels)
--I'd like to hang my iron inside the door so it's not visible.

And on the outside, the back will hide my quilt pad cutting boards (those olfa things) clothes drying racks, and iron board--ok this is too much without having 1' of space back there. So I'll modify my thoughts on that...
--Hang ironing board on one side (outside) of the armoire--will need to make a cute cover.
--hang my ladder on the other side from a hook.

Craigslist has tons of different armoire's on it. Now it's just a waiting game to see what is my price range and has some uniqueness to it. :)

Projects projects projects...what to do first!

I'm a spending a little too much time looking at websites with fellow DIY'ers that are unemployed (ie. stay at home mom's) and thinking--wouldn't it be nice to not have to WORK ALL DAY and then come home to be expected to "Work all day" at home!?

So in my escape-ism, i have projects...here's my outstanding projects so far:
--Anya's dog-butt coat hook (it's just like it sounds)
--1930's maple dresser/mirror redo/sell
--Gateleg table refinish
--Anita's Mirror paint around the edge
--The BIG ONE: 3 pc sofa Victorian legs Paint, pad a little, reupholster! (with dog fabric and brown)
--Under bed drawers--it's a filler project, but very handy!

Oh and this is not counting the Mixbooks I'm working on:
--Richter Wedding (Cindy's Brother's wedding) it's a present.
--Anya's book of Paris
--Cindy's Cake book
--Hawaii Oahu
--Hawaii Big Island
--Hawaii Kauai

Dusseldorf letters w/ pictures
and started but not made projects for Australia yet. I already have 3 Australia books!

I really need to figure out how to do this and get paid for it!

Loving Mixbook for YEARS!

Each time I relocate countries, I start shopping for a new book publisher. I need one that allows me the greatest flexibility with layout, photos, uploading, and embellishing.
In Germany, (2006) I used cewe.de (In german.) It was good software, but the upload was tricky. Since then, I've stayed away from programs that you download to your computer, create a book and then upload the entire thing to their site for printing. If you are looking at a scrapbook type thing, you could have 1000 photos in it, and that's lot's of bandwidth/uninterrupted signal time!

In Australia, (2006-2009) I found one of the only local books: Momento.com.au
But 1 book at 100 pages, printed well, was almost $200. I made 1 book. And vowed to stop using them completely.

In USA, (and now in Australia) we are spoiled for choices.

I've been using Mixbook.com for 2 years and love it. It's flexible, reliable, you upload your photos quickly to their server (saves a giant upload at the end!), customer service is outstanding...and the products I've received have been printed quickly, reliably, and the quality is much better than the Cewe book from Germany, and maybe a hair lower than the momento--but I buy a 99 page book at Mixbook for $67 (with no discount) compared to $200AUD at Momento...no comparison MIxbook is FABULOUS!

I do get asked frequently, what to use, how to use them, and why I picked Mixbook. I'll add that in a future post.

Restarting the blog...day 1.

So I started this blog in 2008.  but never really figured it out. I've spent a few minutes and now I'm ready to go again.  Found some old travel stories from Europe. I'll start with a couple of those, then post my DIY efforts as I tackle my "Projects" from craigs list!

Ahh I even figured out how to upload a photo! This is the visio drawing I made for my armoire refurb plans. For another day!
